Trade School at the Common Room in Norwich

Slow food Norwich together with Olivaverde took part in the first Trade School to be held in Norwich which was part of the Common Room project held at St Laurence's Church on Saturday 10th November. Slow Food Norwich together with Raffles restaurants held a Le Marche food and wine evening in Norwich on the 25th January to feature wines from a Slow Wine producer in Italy. The wines were all from the Le Marche region of eastern Italy and included the white Passerina and red Rosso Piceno together with the rare dessert cherry wine Vini di Visiciole. Slow Food Norwich is really pleased to be organising a visit to the Humpty Dumpty Brewery in Reedham in the spring with the help of the owners and Slow Food members Steve and Lesley. The wine and food evening will be held at St Benedicts restaurant in Norwich and is featuring wine and food from the Le Marche region of eastern Italy. Slow food Norwich is actively involved with the Slow Food on Campus project which is proving very popular at Universities in the UK. So far twelve Universities are taking part and a typical example is Cambridge where there are over 150 student members. Slow food Norwich were very pleased to be able to help with the Sagra that was held at Creake Abbey Barns in North West Norfolk last Friday night, 7th October. The Italian food event was held in the wonderful main barn at Creake Abbey Studios and one of the themes for the evening was the use of extra virgin olive oil that is made by a Slow food member in Italy, Frantoio Montedoro near Senigallia. Another excellent fair in Norwich which Slow food Norwich members took part was the Ethical and Eco fair held at the Forum in Norwich yesterday. Twenty of us, Slow food Norwich members and guests met up at St Benedicts restaurant in Norwich on Friday evening 8th July, kindly hosted by Jayne Raffles of the Raffles group of restaurants in Norwich. The station is very involved with promoting small community groups and giving air time to organisations such as Slow Food. I normally try and pop into the Slow Food UK offices in London once or twice a month and yesterday I was pleased to visit the new shop in Neals Yard, Covent Garden. The shop is on the ground floor of the Slow Food building and the offices are now on the first floor. The shop opens on Monday 27th June and will be stocking produce produced by Slow food members as well as other items which I am sure will prove popular with both existing members and the general public. Last weekend was a busy time for members and friends of Slow Food Norwich, attending two seperate events in Norwich and also in Wells next the sea. I met with Laura from Norwich Farm share and she has invited our members to their open day at the farm at Postwick on Saturday 11th June. The Wells Maltings project in Wells next the Sea held an open day on Wednesday April 27th to increase awareness of the regeneration project and the various groups and bodies which support the trust. Slow food Norwich had the first of the planned events at the Forum in Norwich on Saturday 16th April and all present thought it was a very successful day. Preparations for the Norwich Slow Food day on April 16th are progressing well and we have several new contributors to the day including Drove Orchards from Thornham, Aviva from "Slow Stuff" who makes wonderful organic textiles and dyes from local plants and seeds and Mr Kews Pies with their extensive range of pies,sausages and burgers.
