Members of Slow Food Italy and also Slow Food Norwich, along with several members of the public attended a wonderful tasting event at the vineyard and organic estate of Sig Mognon in central Le Marche last Sunday evening.
Signor Mognon does produce a wonderful range of organic wines but he also grows and markets a large range of organic vegetables including Cick peas or Ceci as they are known in Italian, and this evening was given over to tasting several recipes based around Ceci.
In this area near to the coastal resort of Senigallia in central Le Marche several wonderful wines are also produced including Verdicchio and several superb reds, including Rosso Conero, but all present were there to hear a talk about the uses of Ceci in the diet and in cooking.

Signor Mognon, his wife Irene and an expert on Ceci hosted the event and it started with some of the party collecting Ceci growing in the surrounding fields and vineyards while Signor Mognon's wife prepared the Ceci meal for tasting, which included an organic soup and also organic Polenta.
During the meal a talk was given in Italian by an expert in the nutritional and health benefits of Ceci while Signor Mognon helped translate to the many German and English people who were also present that evening. His local wine was also tasted by those present to make it a really memorable event.

Later this year and early in 2012, Slow Food Norwich members will be returning to Italy to attend several more organic food related events and also to start forming stronger ties with Slow Food groups in Italy, especially those located in Le Marche and Umbria.
