Slow Food Norwich was asked by members of Slow food London to arrange a visit by Andrea Tomassetti of Slow food Senigallia to hold a workshop about Italian olive oil.
The FARM shop in Dalston Lane, Hackney is a community based organisation working closely with local groups to promote good healthy sustainable food and also establish links with similar bodies in London and elsewhere in the UK. Laura Billings of the FARM shop was instrumental in setting up the event and we hope to work closely with Laura to arrange other similar workshops in the future.

On Wednesday 7th October Andrea held a tutored tasting and workshop at the FARM and this proved to be very popular very informative.
Andrea is from the Frantoio Montedoro near Senigallia in eastern Italy and is an expert in the cultivation and production of fine extra virgin olive oils. He spoke about many aspects of olive oil production as well as giving a short talk on the history of olive cultivation in the Mediterranean region, we were also informed about the correct tasting of fine olive oils.
Later in the evening there was a tasting of olive oils from Le Marche in Italy, Umbria and also the Island of Gozo, and t
he evening finished with a thank you to Andrea by Dermott Sales of Slow Food Norwich and food provided by the FARM cafe with wines from different regions of Italy.
We hope to be able to arrange a talk on the Libera Terra organisation in Italy by Dermott at the FARM shop before Christmas together with a tasting of a selection of their products which are now available in the UK.
